Davys Burton celebrated its centenary in August 1998. The firm is the oldest established legal practice in the city of Rotorua. Over the years Davys Burton partners have been responsible for the legal work required in creating many of the city's major businesses including the Chamber of Commerce, Rotorua High School, the railway, Rotorua Newspapers, the first picture theatre, Brent's Hotel and the airport.
With our business clients we like to ensure that they are aware of the value of intellectual property. We give advice on trademarks, particularly in franchising agreements, to ensure all issues are addressed in the contract including confidentiality and disclosure.
The firm is expanding in resource management and local government work, particularly with the Local Government Act 2002. Richard Pryce has expertise in this area.
Davys Burton is committed to giving opportunities to employees starting their careers and gets satisfaction from watching them develop and become effective members of the team.
Continued education is a priority for the firm and partners and staff have the opportunity to attend external conferences and seminars that pertain to their area of law. The attendees report back to the staff through weekly in-house seminars which cover a variety of legal and non-legal topical matters, including health and stress management issues for their staff.
Davys Burton benefits as a member of the Lawlink Group as this gives the firm the ability to access and share experience, maintain consistent high standards, provide education and information services and comprehensive resources. Lawlink is also proactive in informing the public of current legal issues and assisting to provide solutions ahead of problems.
